The Carol Rocklin Kay Memorial Fund was established in 1988 to provide support for student participation in The Way Up conferences. Carol Rocklin Kay, who served as Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at Iowa State University, was a central figure in planning The Way Up II, III, IV and V conferences. She served as the Program Chair for women graduate students - the future faculty members and administrators of our colleges and universities. Scholarships cover conference registration and one night's stay in the conference hotel. This year's winners will be announced during the conference.
Women undergraduate or graduate students in any higher education institution in Iowa who are interested in a career in higher education may apply or be nominated for this scholarship.
Nominations or applications should include the name, address, phone number and email address of the candidate, a one page statement addressing the student's interest in a career in higher education and what she hopes to gain from participation in this conference. After selection, the scholarship recipients must submit the text of a three minute presentation to be made at the Thursday lunch. The topic of the presentation will be "Inspiring Excellence for Women in Higher Education - A Student's Perspective."

The Way Up Planning Council encourages all women leaders to "invest in ourselves"! Please consider making a donation to our scholarship fund. These scholarships make it possible for deserving women to attend this conference when they would not have been able to otherwise. Here is what recent recipients had to say about their experiences:
“I strongly encourage every woman in higher education to attend The Way Up Conference. Each session gave me good information while also energizing me to improve myself. There are also great opportunities to meet and talk with other woman who are working in higher education. The learning and networking opportunities are amazing. I look forward to this conference every year and was fortunate to receive the Carol Rocklin Kay Memorial Scholarship to support my attendance last year.” Amy Pilcher
"Attending The Way Up Conference was more than listening to exceptional keynote speakers and participating in interactive sessions. It was an opportunity to connect with other women in higher education. The opportunity to build my professional network was invaluable. I would strongly encourage any woman in higher education to attend The Way Up Conference!" Kendra Everest
"I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend The Way Up Conference XXVII through the Carol Rocklin Kay Memorial Scholarship. It was a great experience! I had the chance to meet so many talented and knowledgeable women from diverse areas of higher education across the state of Iowa. Each keynote speaker and break-out session left me with some important take-aways that I can incorporate into my continuing graduate work, my assistantship, and (soon) my career. I would highly recommend The Way Up Conference to anyone who is interested in furthering their own career in higher education and those who are looking to help others through their knowledge, leadership, and networking capabilities. I’m already looking forward to next year’s conference!" Ann L. Munzenmaier
